Employees of the Stavropol State Agrarian University have begun an interesting work on editing the DNA of domestic sheep.
It should be noted that a unique process was initiated by experts of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation in order to improve the “meat quality” of the livestock.
It is known that scientists from the Stavropol University work on the same team with the developers of the Skoltech scientific and technological institute, and today their common priority is to correct the Russian sheep’s genome and bring their “meatiness” to a whole new level thanks to CRISPR / CAS technology.
At the moment, an analysis of the gene structure of five sheep breeds has already been carried out, genes that affect the quality of their meat have been identified. In the work, DNA sensors were used, which were introduced into individuals of various cattle-breeding enterprises in Stavropol.
Now the information collected by the sensors has been transmitted to the monitors of scientists who say with confidence: thanks to the introduction of advanced technologies, it is possible to increase the “meatiness” of sheep within one generation.
It will not be superfluous to note that in the near future, the work of scientists to improve the meat quality of sheep stock in the Russian Federation will be re-qualified as a federal project.
