A large number of farmers in the south of Ukraine are planning to begin harvesting winter wheat and barley in the first decade of June, which is several days earlier than last year. Agrarians reported this during a survey conducted by analysts of the Infoindustry news agency on June 3, 2019.
According to farmers in the southern regions of the country, harvesting will tentatively begin after June 10. According to farmers, this situation has developed under the influence of weather, while they predict a decrease in productivity of the above winter crops by 10-15% compared with the previous marketing year.
For information, Ukrainian farmers completed the spring sowing campaign, planting 27.7 million hectares of cultivated plants, which is at the level of 2018. The area occupied by grain crops is 14.8 million hectares, technical - 9.2 million hectares, which is also previous year level.
Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vladimir Topchy predicts that the yield of early crops this year will not be lower than last year.
In his forecasts, Topchii relies on the nature of the course of spring field work and data on wintering of winter crops.
