Honeysuckle is one of the most promising niche berry crops in terms of the combination of parameters for processing and the fresh market.
Berry can be grown in all regions of Ukraine, except in the South and Transcarpathia, where winters are too warm, said Alexander Yarechenko, deputy director for scientific work of the NAAS gardening institute. A big minus in the cultivation of honeysuckle in Ukraine is that the market for this berry is not yet formed.
As of the end of 2018, in Ukraine there were about 50 hectares of honeysuckle plantations. Of the domestic producers with large honeysuckle plantations, only one remained - the Agros Vista company, noted Alexander Yarechenko.According to him, an interesting situation on the market will develop with honeysuckle. So, Ukraine usually follows the footsteps of Poland in the cultivation of berries. Now in Poland there are 2 thousand hectares of plantations of honeysuckle and in the coming years, Polish producers of berries will be forced to engage in its marketing. Most likely, here Ukraine will repeat the Polish experience and begin to work on marketing of honeysuckle, said Alexander Yarechenko. It was previously reported that the total gross harvest of fruits and berries in 2018 increased by 60%. Basically, such a high indicator was achieved due to a record harvest of apples last year.Share
