Many are waiting for the arrival of the new summer season in order to enjoy fresh vegetables grown by their own hands. And among them, the real symbols of summer are early, crunchy, aromatic cucumbers. Variety Furor is one of the representatives of domestic selection, which stands out for its excellent characteristics - long fruiting and excellent presentation of the fruit.
Botanical Description
The Furor cucumbers were brought out by the partners of the agricultural partner company not so long ago, therefore they have not yet been included in the State Register of the Russian Federation. In the application for registration of the variety, it was designated as Furo. The decision to enter the State Register will be made after all the necessary tests and a detailed study of the characteristics of the variety. Furor is a hybrid, so it is labeled F1.
Important! It is not worth preserving the seeds of hybrid plants for use in the next season, since in the second generation the positive characteristics of the variety will crumble into parental forms, the quality of which will be unpredictable.
Fruit
Variety Furor brings a rich harvest of fruits with the following characteristics:
- one-dimensional, even, cylindrical;
- with small tubercles and lightish pubescence on the surface;
- saturated green color, without light streaks;
- up to 10–12 cm long, up to 3–3.5 cm in diameter;
- weighing between 60–80 g.
Cucumbers are distinguished by a delicate, thin, elastic peel. Their flesh is juicy, tender, fairly dense, full, with a characteristic cucumber aroma. The taste of Furor fruit is pleasant, sweet, without traces of bitterness. In medium-sized seed chambers there are seeds of milk ripeness, which are not felt with food.
Fruits are characterized by versatility. They are consumed fresh as an appetizer or as a salad component. Also, the variety is great for homemade preparations - pickling, pickling, canning. In addition, various masks and lotions are made from cucumbers, especially for problem skin.
Kustov
Furor refers to indeterminate cultures, i.e. has almost unlimited stem growth. As a result, the plant reaches a considerable height, so in a greenhouse it can stretch up to 3 m or more. In the process of its growth, a new ovary is constantly forming, which lengthens the fruiting period.
Lateral shoots of the variety are small, well leafy. The leaves of the plant are medium in size, green in color and have a solid, angular-heart-shaped shape with a slightly wrinkled surface. The root system of Furoor is powerful, well-developed. Type of fruiting varieties - bunch. Moreover, 2–4 ovaries are formed in the sinus of each leaf.
Did you know? In the Pacific Islands, cucumbers are treated as a very valuable product. The fruits are wrapped in banana leaves and stored buried in the ground. So, on the island of Fiji, before obtaining permission for marriage, the future groom must present his parents with the stockpiles of these fruits.
Characteristic
Thanks to breeding work, Furor cucumbers tolerate a short moisture deficit, slight cooling and temperature differences. Also, the fruits are perfectly transported and stored.
Productivity
Due to the extended fruiting, cucumbers of this variety bring a plentiful harvest. In this case, up to 7 kg of aromatic cucumbers can be removed from one bush. And the yield of 1 m² of cucumber planting will be about 20 kg.
Moreover, the yield does not depend on where the crop is grown - in the greenhouse or on the open ground. The yield and quality of cucumbers is influenced by many factors, among which are soil fertility, lightness of the site, the correctness and timeliness of care measures.
Flowering and fruiting periods
The variety shows early fruiting, i.e. 37–39 days elapse between seed germination and harvesting of the first ripe fruit. The type of flowering plant is bouquet, in each node 2–4 fruits are tied.
Moreover, the duration of the harvest is 2-3 months. The Furor F1 variety is parthenocarpic, so it does not need insects or other pollinating plants.
Pest and disease resistance
The furor has good resistance against powdery mildew, ordinary cucumber mosaic and olive leaf spot. However, the risk of infection increases if the weather is cool and rainy for a long time. Therefore, you should properly care for the plants, do not place them too thickly and periodically ventilate the greenhouse.
Advantages and Possible Disadvantages
- According to the characteristics of the variety, the following advantages can be noted:
- early ripening;
- profuse bearing;
- large fruits without internal voids;
- thin peel of fruits;
- soft and juicy seeds;
- pleasant delicate, sweet taste;
- resistance to characteristic diseases;
- the possibility of growing on personal farmsteads and on an industrial scale;
- universality of the use of fruits.
The variety has no pronounced disadvantages. The only thing that some gardeners note is the rather high cost of seeds.
Planting varieties
Since the culture is quite sensitive to cold, the timing of planting cucumbers is extremely important. The authors of the variety recommend planting Furor in open ground around May-June, when the soil temperature warms up to + 15 ° C.
In areas where freezing frost is observed, it is better to grow the culture through seedlings. In a warm climate, Furora seeds can be planted immediately on the site. Garden beds are prepared in the fall, digging the ground and feeding it with compost. The minimum height of the beds is 25 cm.
Important! Good predecessors of cucumbers are tomatoes, cabbage, garlic and onions. It is better not to plant the crop where last year zucchini, zucchini, pumpkins, melons or watermelons grew.
Cucumbers prefer sunny, low-wind areas with fertile, well-drained soil. If it is acidic, liming should be carried out. The optimal substrate for the Furor variety is a mixture of peat, humus, turf and sawdust in a ratio of 6: 1: 1: 1.Also on the site you need to provide supports on which the shoots of cucumbers can curl as they grow. As such supports, metal arcs or wooden trellises are well suited.
Sowing method
For planting varieties with seeds, you should prepare a garden where you can arrange rows with a depth of 5–7 cm. The seeds are planted at the same distance from each other (30–35 cm), after which the soil is gently watered so that there is no excess moisture. For irrigation, slightly warm, settled water should be used.
After that, a mini-greenhouse made of glass or polyethylene can be arranged above the garden bed. If the probability of the return of frost is high, then at night the landing is covered with a layer of straw or agrofibre.
Seedling method
Furora seeds for seedlings are planted in March-April. They do not need to be warmed up, you just need to soak the seeds in a growth stimulator for about 20 minutes. They are planted in nutritious soil or in special peat tablets.
Then carefully pour and leave in a warm place, covered with paper, glass or polyethylene.
After seed germination, it is best to place them on the windowsill, where the seedlings will receive a sufficient amount of sunlight. Water should be as necessary.
Between the germination of seeds and the planting of cucumbers on a permanent site usually takes 3-4 weeks. The signal for the possibility of transplantation is the formation of at least 5 leaves and a plant height of at least 25 cm.
Seedlings of cucumbers Furor F1 are planted in the following order:
- The holes are prepared with a depth of 40 cm and a step between them - 30–40 cm (for 1 m² there should be no more than 3 bushes).
- Part of the moistened nutrient soil is poured into the hole, where a bush is planted along with a lump of earth or in a peat tablet.
- The root system of cucumbers is covered with earth, which is neatly compacted.
- Each bush is watered with 3 liters of warm, standing water.
Further care of the bush
Caring for cucumbers involves carrying out mandatory activities - watering, top dressing, weeding and cultivating.
Watering and feeding
Plants are watered with warm water approximately to the depth of a bayonet of a shovel (about 25 cm). Water can be heated in a natural way by placing the barrel in a place accessible to sunlight. You need to water in the morning or in the evening, the average frequency of watering in the hot period is 1 time in 3-5 days.
5-10 liters of water per 1 m² of planting is usually sufficient for young plants. When the plants bloom, abundant watering should be stopped and resumed only after fruit set. After the moisture has absorbed into the soil, the earth around the bushes should be carefully loosened.
Mulching the soil with peat or straw will reduce the frequency of watering. During the rainy season, you can not water the plants.
Organic and mineral fertilizers are used to feed cucumbers. It is better to feed in the evening after watering, avoiding the ingress of fertilizers on the leaves of the plant.
Furor F1 is fed several times during the season:
- After the formation of the first leaves - 3 l of mullein solution (1 l of mullein per 10 l of water) per plant.
- 2-3 weeks after the first feeding - superphosphate and potassium salt (30 g per 10 liters of water).
- Foliar top dressing as necessary - 0.5 l per 1 m² with a solution of 12 g of superphosphate, 7 g of potassium chloride, 5 g of urea and 10 l of water.
Soil loosening
Loosening is necessary so that water and air have good access to the roots of plants. Since during watering the top layer of the earth is compacted and covered with a crust, after the water is absorbed, it should be carefully loosened.
If this is not done, the plant will develop worse, and the ovary will fall. Since the roots of cucumbers are distinguished by a shallow occurrence, they should be loosened carefully, at a depth of not more than 4 cm.
Weeding
Periodically, as necessary, weed the soil around the plants, removing weeds. The event is held so that the weeds do not obscure the cucumbers and do not take away nutrients from them. If there are few weeds, you can manually tear them up with the root.
Important! To obtain an abundant harvest, it is necessary to form a plant - pinching the top of the main shoot at a height of 2 m, lateral processes at the level of 40–50 cm, removing all flowers and shoots in the lower part of the bush.
Disease and Pest Prevention
The aphids, the bear, the wireworm, the spider mite, and thrips are considered the most dangerous for cucumbers.
To combat them, folk remedies are used:
- wormwood infusion;
- wood ash;
- tobacco dust.
Although the variety is distinguished by good immunity to powdery mildew, olive blotch and ordinary mosaic, if infection still occurs, plantings with Topaz or Fundazole solutions should be treated. If necessary, the procedure is repeated after 7-10 days. To prevent the development of diseases will preventive spraying of plants with a solution of wood ash or iodine.
Additional means of prevention:
- aphid - ladybugs, infusion of onions or garlic, tobacco infusion with laundry soap;
- spider mite - an aqueous solution of laundry soap;
- gall nematode - soil replacement, treatment of affected soil with steam, winter freezing of the soil.
Harvesting and storage
The fruits of cucumbers of this variety are harvested regularly, as they ripen, when they reach a size of 10-12 cm. The frequency of collection is usually - 1 time in 1-2 days. During the period of mass fruiting, the beds are inspected twice a day - in the morning and in the evening.
Cucumbers are removed from the bush by twisting. Moreover, not only ripe specimens should be removed, but also damaged or irregularly shaped. This is done so that poor-quality fruits do not weaken the bush. During the collection you can not pull or pull the lashes of cucumbers.
Peeled fruits are stored in the refrigerator in the vegetable compartment. Their shelf life is 1-2 weeks. If you follow all the recommendations for growing, Furor cucumber will certainly delight you with fresh, crisp fruits over its long period of fruiting. The main thing is to choose a good place to plant and properly care for plants.
