Even the children are aware of the healing properties of honey, therefore it is not surprising that this product can be used in a wide variety of spheres of human activity. To enhance its positive effect on the body, a variety of components are added to it, which themselves are famous for a considerable amount of useful compounds.
In this article, we will talk about one of the most valuable varieties of such mixtures - honey with resin, which is able to saturate the body with a large number of healing substances. How exactly to use it and when it will be appropriate - read on.
Does cedar honey exist
Gum (or cedar) honey is not a beekeeping product, but the result of human activity. In its pure form, it does not exist in nature, therefore, to obtain the finished product, simply mix any available variety with resin, in order to use it as a medicine in the future.
Since the name "gum honey" has taken root among the people, then when describing the final product of such a combination, it is worth using it. It is noteworthy that absolutely any honey can be used to create a sweet gum product: acacia, chestnut, clover or buckwheat, but cedar substance is usually used as gum.
Sometimes cedar is called honeydew honey produced by bees from the sweet pad that appears on the needles and branches of conifers. Despite the fact that the usual pollen and nectar are practically absent in such a substance, this does not make it less useful.
Zhivitsa: description, origin, composition
Zhivitsa - resin secreted by coniferous trees when the bark is damaged or the wood is broken. To obtain the substance by artificial means, incisions are specially made on the cortex, stimulating the appearance of resin.
Then it is collected in a prepared container and used in the production of turpentine, ointments, creams and balms. Outwardly, it is a colorless viscous substance with a characteristic coniferous smell, but if you leave it in the open air, it will quickly thicken, since a significant part of the essential oils will simply evaporate. In this case, the color of the resin can change to light or dark brown, as a result of which frozen streaks of this color appear on the trees.
The scientific name of the resin is turpentine, but its chemical composition will depend on the type of tree on which the resin appeared. The main ingredients of fir, larch or cedar are slightly different, so the following components will be present in any resin:
- volatile substances (approximately 32–35%), including monoterpenes (for example, karen, limonene, camphene) used in the preparation of turpentine;
- diterpenes, sesquiterpenes and derivatives from them (“neutral substances”), the amount of which will vary for different species of resin;
- resin (rezinol) acids in the amount of 60–70% of the total volume (represented by abietic, pimaric, palusturic, sapic, dextropimaric and others, which form rosin upon boiling);
- colorless tar alcohols (resins);
- rezinotannols (colored alcohols);
- vitamins C and D;
- succinic acid;
- fatty acids (including lauric, oleic, palmitic, stearic).
Given that honey contains more than 300 different compounds, it is not surprising that when mixing products, these constituents of resin are favorably supplemented with natural carbohydrates (e.g. fructose), indispensable amino compounds, active bee enzymes and many other useful elements.
Did you know? The name resin "resin" appeared even in the days of Ancient Russia and is due to the scope of its application. Folk healers and doctors of that time used the substance to heal wounds and relieve inflammatory processes, so it turned out that it healed, revitalized and even gave life.

How to make cedar honey at home
