The soft wheat variety Victoria 11 belongs to the steppe ecological group. Due to its quality characteristics, it is characterized by high productivity and resistance to external factors. Next, you will learn about the history of the creation of this wheat, key features and requirements for planting and care.
History of the variety
The Victoria 11 wheat variety was created using individual selection from hybrid species - Odessa 200 and Zernogradka 11. The winter variety was entered into the register of winter varieties in 1998 and recommended for sowing for steppe, forest-steppe and woodland. The originator of the selection is the Stavropol Research Institute of Agriculture.
Did you know? Since 1843, the longest agricultural experiment continues. Scientists in Hertfordshire study the effect of various fertilizers on wheat crops.
Description of Wheat Victoria 11
The variety due to its excellent baking qualities is classified as valuable wheat. The culture is characterized by high productivity. In the general structure, this indicator is justified by the specific structure of the ear, the number and weight of grains. It is considered drought-resistant, winter-hardy and tolerates weather changes.
In its winter hardiness, the culture is comparable to the Don 107 variety, and in terms of drought tolerance, it slightly surpassed the elite standard Memory. In addition, it is resistant to lodging and gives an earlier ripening time than the varieties Aivina and Levoberezhnaya 1.
Victoria 11 also gained a good reputation due to the ability to independently resist solid smut, stem, yellow and brown rust. A strong root system resists weeds very well. Another distinctive feature of the culture is the extremely low rates of seed germination in the ear and shedding. The traditional average weight of a thousand grains is 34–49 g.
Important! The optimal time for sowing Victoria 11 wheat is not constant. They change under the influence of weather conditions, which must be taken into account to get a good harvest.
Appearance
The plant has a medium, upright or semi-upright bush. Of medium density and the same length, a white, spindle-shaped spike, with short awns at the end, is distinguished by a narrow raised shoulder and a moderately curved tooth. The omission of the lower spikelet scales is slightly pronounced, and in the apical part of the axis it is almost absent.
The upper internode and the flag leaf in the part of the vagina are covered with an average, and often very weak, wax coating. Grain red, oval-ovate, medium size.
Characteristics
The culture is distinguished by a unique combination of high productivity, wide ecological plasticity and excellent grain quality indicators. It easily tolerates a decrease in agricultural background, while it is environmentally plastic and gives excellent grain quality at high productivity. The variety is also resistant to disease. Victoria 11, less than similar varieties, is exposed to diseases of brown, yellow and stem rust.
Did you know? In 2017, New Zealand recorded the largest wheat crop. 168 ha were collected from 1 ha in wheat fields, which was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.
Landing and Care Requirements
Due to its versatility and belonging to the soft group, this wheat demonstrates maximum efficiency when sowing in pairs and semi-pairs, according to the best fertilized unpaired predecessors and medium-intensive technologies.
To ensure a good crop, you need to make nitrogen, potash and phosphate fertilizers. You can do this by adding them to the ground or to the surface of the earth.
Well adapted to early and late sowing. Sensitively responds to any increase in agricultural background and irrigation. The cultivation regions are Stavropol (its central part), Volgograd and most of the Saratov region.
Wheat variety Victoria 11 is considered relatively young, but already quite popular. Due to the unique combination of positive qualities, this crop is characterized by high productivity. It is also possible due to long ears, their large number and volume of grains. Thanks to this combination, Victoria is quite profitable to sow the fields.
