According to the Sochi Department of Nature Protection and Agriculture, 2018 was a real test for those farmers who grow hazelnuts on the territory of their farms.
The quality and quantity of the crop, as well as the production as a whole, were adversely affected by the vigorous activity of a well-known pest - a marble bug.
“The governor of the Krasnodar Territory instructed the farmers to increase the area under the laying of hazelnut groves,” the department says. - Since this industry has a positive effect on both the economy of the region and the economy of the country as a whole. And everything would have been fine if it hadn't been for the pest that only this year exterminated more than half of the total volume of hazelnuts in Sochi. ”
Marble bug belongs to the category of quarantine pests, and farmers have not yet agreed on how to not only overcome this insect, but also permanently cut off its path to the Sochi hazelnut lands.
Now representatives of the Krasnodar agro-industrial complex are negotiating with farmers who grow hazelnuts, trying to find a solution to the problem with minimal labor and material costs.
