Local authorities have discovered up to 1 thousand dead pigs on a fattening farm in Neustadt am Rübenberg (Hanover region). According to the NDR, police and prosecutors are currently investigating.
According to initial information, the feed system is out of order. It is still unclear why the farmer did not notice this.
The veterinary office cleaned the corpses. According to the prosecutor general, experts should now clarify how long the dead animals have been in the barn. On Tuesday, the surviving pigs were taken to another room.

According to the NDR, the owner of the farm was alarmed: the district was leased to a trained farmer in July. The conditions in the barn are completely inexplicable, because basically the farmer has to take care of his animals every day, the owner said.
After detecting the mass death of pigs, authorities checked another tenant farm, NDR said in a second statement. All 750 pigs there are doing well. Four households controlled by the tenant's parents were also checked. There was nothing to complain about either.
