Potato Alladin is attractive for its good yield, disease resistance and high adaptive ability. Read more about the variety below.
Characterization and description of the variety
Aladdin was bred about 15 years ago by employees of the Dutch agricultural company Agrico. Refers to medium-late varieties. It ripens in 90–110 days, depending on weather conditions. It is not picky about soils, it adapts perfectly to any climate. It has a high level of resistance to drought, late blight.
The bushes are medium-sized, about 50 cm tall. Covered with medium-sized green leaves. The outer edge of the sheet is pointed. The surface of the leaves has a leathery structure.
The roots are powerful, form 8–12 potatoes of an aligned rounded shape. The weight of one tuber is 100–110 g. The peel is red, with small shallow eyes, smooth. The cut is white flesh. The starch content in the pulp is 21%. Potato Alladin is also valuable for taste, well boiled. After heat treatment, the flesh remains color, does not darken. Puree has a good consistency, not dry and not watery. Root crops are better suited for cooking chips, boiling, baking. For frying and cooking salads are not suitable.
From one plant you can collect 2–2.5 kg of potatoes. Productivity from 1 ha is 400-500 c.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Potato Alladin has pros and cons that should be considered when cultivating in a particular area.
- The advantages of the variety are:
- high qualitative and quantitative indicators of the crop;
- resistance of fruits to mechanical damage;
- good keeping quality;
- resistance to late blight;
- good adaptability to any climatic conditions.
Among the shortcomings, the tolerance of nitrogen-containing fertilizers is not very good, so you have to look for a replacement for manure.
Planting and growing
The agricultural technique of growing Alladin potato varieties is straightforward. The main thing is to clearly control the amount of nutrients delivered to the soil in order to get a good crop.

Optimal landing times
Potato planting is carried out only after the soil has warmed up to at least + 7 ° C. The optimal time for planting potatoes is the end of April - the beginning of May.
Crop rotation rules
Compliance with crop rotation rules is the key to obtaining a quality healthy crop. You can’t plant solanaceous before potatoes.
The most suitable precursors for potatoes:
- legumes;
- cabbage;
- siderates (winter wheat, phacelia).
Potatoes can be returned to their original place after 5 years.
Did you know? Slovenia has an association of fried potato lovers with onions. They annually hold festivals, where guests are treated to various dishes of fried potatoes.
Soil requirements
The variety is not demanding on the composition of the soil, but higher yields are observed when growing on loose lightweight sandy loam and loamy soils.
It is necessary to prepare a site for planting potatoes in several stages, including:
- nutritional enhancement;
- disinfection.
After a week, 10 kg / m² are applied:
- fresh manure;
- sand;
- compost.
Once again, deep loosening is carried out without breaking the clods. This will allow the earth to be oxygenated over the winter, as well as retain moisture in it.
In the spring, a month before planting, they begin to plow deeply, so they fertilize. At this stage, it is better to use compost with wood ash. For 10 kg of compost add 300 g of ash. This amount is enough to close up 1 m². 1-2 weeks before planting, you need to irrigate “Fitosporin” - 5 g of the drug are added to 10 liters of water. This substance simultaneously acts as a disinfectant, actively enhances plant immunity and stimulates growth. The soil is carefully leveled and left alone until planting.
Preparing planting material
Planting material is also prepared in the fall. Immediately during the harvest, tubers of the same size are selected, the most attractive in appearance. They are landscaped. For this, the tubers are left in a well-lit place for several days. Periodically, the tubers are turned over so that the landscaping is uniform on all sides. This procedure allows you to protect root crops from diseases and rodents.
A month before planting, seed potatoes are removed from the cellar. The next task of the agronomist is to sprout the tubers. For this, the seed material is placed in a room where the air temperature is maintained within +5 ... + 7 ° С for 10 days. After this time, the temperature in the room is raised to +18 ... + 20 ° С, and at night it is reduced to +6 ... + 8 ° С. By the time of planting, tubers should form sprouts 1 cm long.
A week before planting, sprouted potatoes are sorted and checked for suitability. To identify tubers that will not germinate, they are immersed in a urea solution. To do this, add 1.5 kg of substance to 10 liters of water.All healthy tubers that are suitable for germination will sink to the bottom, bad ones will float. After this, the tubers are dried and laid out in one layer for further preparation. The day before planting, the tubers are sprayed with “Albit” for disinfection - a flow rate of 10 l / t. Instead of this preparation, it is possible to dust the tubers with ash, immediately before laying in the hole.
Landing technology
For planting 1 ha of area, 40,000 tubers will be required. Directly before planting, the tubers are divided into fractions of 50 g.
Landing is carried out in trenches with a depth of 10 cm. A distance of 35 cm is left between the fractions in a row. A distance of 50 cm is left between the rows for ease of movement between them during agricultural activities.
Important! At the time of planting, Aladdin potatoes are not watered. If the spring turned out to be arid, then watering is carried out 2 days before planting.
After landing care
Compliance with simple agricultural rules will help to get a crop of excellent quality.
Fertilizer
Organic and mineral fertilizers are suitable for the Alladin potato variety, which should be applied alternately. The first top dressing after planting is carried out after the emergence of sprouts, immediately before the first hilling. At this stage, a combination of 1 tsp. urea and 1.5 tbsp. humus. This amount is enough to enrich with nutrients 1 m² of planted area. If the soil is too dry, it is better to use a urea solution - add 1 tbsp. To 10 liters of water. substances. 0.5 l of working solution is poured under each plant.
At the time of the appearance of the buds, potassium-containing compounds will be required. The ideal organic fertilizer in this regard is wood ash. 300-400 g of ash are added to 10 liters of water. The solution is applied under the root and on the sheet by spraying.
The third time fertilizers are applied during flowering of potatoes. To 10 liters of water add 2 tbsp. superphosphate and 1 tbsp. mullein. The resulting composition is distributed at 0.5 l per plant, pouring under the root.
Watering
Additional moisture is only required if precipitation is insufficient. Water is introduced directly into the aisles from the hose. The main thing is that the liquid does not fall on the green part of the plants, otherwise the risk of developing stem rot is great. The most suitable time for watering is evening. In the summer, during extreme heat, watering should be done once a week.
Watering should be stopped 3 weeks before harvesting.Weeding and hilling
Potato variety Aladdin will bear fruit poorly if you do not deal with weeding weeds on time. A mandatory measure is loosening the soil in the row-spacings to a depth of 10 cm once every 10 days.
The first hilling is carried out when the plants reach a height of 14 cm. The procedure is the formation of an embankment from the soil taken in the rows between the stems of the plant. The second hilling is carried out 3 weeks after the first. This manipulation allows not only to protect plants from return frosts, but also stimulates the development of additional roots, which helps to strengthen the plant and increase its resistance.
Important! Hilling is carried out after rain when the soil is wet. If precipitation is not expected, and the soil is too dry, then 48 hours before hilling, watering is necessary.
Diseases and pests
The manufacturers annotations indicate that the variety is resistant to late blight, but this does not mean that prevention should be neglected. To avoid spreading late blight and anthracnose, when the bushes reach a height of 20 cm, it is necessary to dust the bushes and scatter wood ash with Fundazol on the soil. Mix the substances in a ratio of 1: 1. After 2 weeks, you can repeat the procedure.
Late blight is very rare, but signs of anthracnose are a fairly common occurrence for this variety. When the first symptoms appear, the affected parts of the plant must be urgently removed, and the sections treated with wood ash with Fundazol. Then spraying is carried out with a 1% solution of Bordeaux fluid.The main pest of this type of potato is Colorado beetle. Getting rid of the pest is quite difficult. When the first parasites appear, it is necessary to conduct the treatment with Confidor according to the instructions. It is advisable to carry out several treatments from the pest, even if its presence has not yet been seen at the plantings. The main preventive measure to get rid of this beetle is deep cultivation, as the larvae of the Colorado potato beetle dig into the soil in the autumn and winter there.
Harvesting and storage rules
Alladin potatoes are harvested in mid-August - mid-September. 20 days before the planned digging of potatoes, you need to mow the entire tops, leaving 10 cm stumps. At this stage, it is important to remove weeds on time. If the weather was rainy, it is better to remove them as quickly as possible. If the weather, on the contrary, is too dry, weeds need to be harvested immediately before harvesting the potatoes, otherwise the tubers will suffer from overdrying in the ground.
After digging, the potatoes are sorted. Then the one that remains for long-term storage is dried in a room with good ventilation, protected from direct sunlight. After that, they are laid out in boxes and sent to the cellar.Optimal conditions for storing potatoes:
- air temperature +6 ... + 8 ° С;
- humidity 75%;
- lack of lighting.
Useful tips gardeners
Some useful recommendations of experienced farmers who will help in growing vegetables:
- Do not break off sprouts from seed potatoes more than 1 time, otherwise the tubers will not germinate.
- To improve the quality of the crop, plant spicy herbs nearby.
- Do not plant potatoes where in the immediate vicinity there is a sunflower field. These plants inhibit potatoes, so you can not expect a good harvest.
- Tops can be used to make quality ash. Ashes from potato tops are distinguished by the highest content of calcium and potassium, which makes it an ideal fertilizer for any plants, as well as a good deoxidizer for the soil.
- After the potatoes are harvested, immediately sow mustard in this area. This green manure develops faster than other plants similar to it, so already by the time you get cold you will have a fully prepared and cleared of fungal bacteria area.
