On the territory of some regions of Ukraine, the harmful activity of thistles or thistles continues. This is evidenced by the results of weekly phytosanitary monitoring of the State Food and Beverage Service.
In Western Ukraine, burdock caterpillars with a quantity of 1-3, a maximum of 7 copies per square meter. 5-16% of soybean plants suffered damage; in the Volyn and Lviv regions, the pest affected 20-30% of the plants. In the Chernivtsi region, 55% of soybean plants in medium and severe degrees are damaged by the thistle.
In the Forest-Steppe zone, 2-10, maximum 20% of soybean, sunflower, focal corn plants in the Kiev region were affected, with 2-10 caterpillars per square meter.
In the steppe zone of the country, 2-25 are damaged, 60-83% of the sunflower plants in the medium and strong degrees are focal in the farms of the Zaporizhzhya region with 6-12 caterpillars per square meter. Foci of superthreshold abundance are localized.
For information, the butterfly thistle (thistle) eats nectar and does not pose a risk to farmland. But its caterpillars are almost omnivorous and, when mass reproduced, eat not only thistles and weeds, but also damage cultivated plants.
These caterpillars especially like to eat soy leaves, as well as vegetable and gourds.
