To date, the total number of arable land mined in the Donetsk region, they reach 30 thousand hectares.
According to operational data, about 30 thousand were mined. They contain explosive objects or are in the war zone, said Sergey Shupik, deputy director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the RSA.
The joint efforts of representatives of the regional state administration, farmers, law enforcement officers and rescuers of the State Emergency Service approved a plan for identifying, neutralizing and destroying explosive objects that impede timely spring field work in full in the Donetsk region.
For information, cluster bombs are often found in the fields of Donetsk region. Currently, the exact degree of contamination with cluster munition residues in Ukraine is unknown.
The belligerents used cluster munitions in 2014 and 2015, which included the Smerch (Tornado) and Hurricane multiple launch rocket systems with fragmentation elements.
Ukraine is not able to correctly assess the degree of contamination of fields with cluster bombs until a full survey is completed. Since the fighting is still ongoing, cluster bombs are reported to continue to be used.
