The gazebos of the closed type are convenient in that they successfully resist the weather, and you can relax in them under various climatic conditions. The arrangement of the internal space completely depends on the desire of the owner and the available opportunities. Of course, such buildings take up more space, and this building is more expensive, but it can perform various functions.
The choice of material for the construction of the gazebo
Closed gazebos in the country can be built from various materials. They are built of wood, stone or brick, metal. Nowadays, buildings made of metal profiles and double-glazed windows with sliding systems are becoming common, but the classics of stone and wood also do not give up their positions. All these materials can be organically combined with each other.
Did you know? The most ancient brick buildings were found in Asia on the Arabian Peninsula (Shubam city). These are houses on 9 floors, which are more than 2 thousand years old.
Wood
Wood is considered a completely environmentally friendly material. Only it is worth considering that the wood of this building will need to be treated with antiseptics and apply a refractory coating. For covered gazebos often use wooden blocks, slats and logs. Such material must first be dried well.
With proper construction and processing, such a structure will stand for a long time and will be pleasing to the eye. Wooden arbors look aesthetically pleasing and very cozy. They can be decorated with beautiful carvings and other details. Such a building will fit perfectly into the eco-style, rustic, Scandinavian, Japanese or Russian styles.
Stone or brick
Such closed-type structures can be made of stone or brick. These materials are well resistant to adverse external weather conditions - rain, snow and wind. Arrangement of such a gazebo will be more troublesome and costly. For a brick structure, you need a good foundation.
But it will be strong and durable, as well as fireproof. In it, you can safely put a barbecue, fireplace or stove. Silicate brick that can be plastered is well suited for such a building. The interior decoration can be varied.
Metal
Metal arbors are quite strong and reliable structures, but for their construction you need experience in working with a welding machine. You can make them using metal pipes, which have different sections. This material is lighter and does not require the installation of a reliable foundation. To build such a structure, a metal frame is first made, and then it is sheathed with polycarbonate or double-glazed windows are inserted.
In this case, panoramic glazing and sliding systems work well. This design should be treated with special means to protect against corrosion. The disadvantage is that a metal building quickly heats up from sunlight and loses heat in the cold. Such structures are more fire resistant than wood, durable and can have a very different configuration.
Drawing creation
When determining the dimensions of the gazebo should be guided by the size of the suburban area and the selected functions. In such a room you can equip a barbecue with work surfaces, a fireplace, a sitting and eating area, a study, a workshop, a refrigerator and a buffet.
Did you know? In the pre-Petrine period, arbors were called “attics”. There is written evidence that in 1680 the Russian Tsar Fedor III installed in his new garden a carved wooden attic painted with paints.
To determine the area of the building, you also need to consider the following:
- The general style of the site. A gazebo in Japanese or Chinese styles is good to put next to the pond, in Russian - next to the bathhouse. In this case, the external and internal appearance must correspond to them.
- If the gazebo will be next to the house, then these buildings should be in harmony with each other. For example, you can make a gazebo made of the same brick or with the same finish as the main building.
- For a comfortable stay in the gazebo, each visitor will need 2 m². If you are planning an indoor relaxation area with sun loungers or a play area, you should plan 4 m² per person. In cramped conditions, people can accommodate more closely, and for this it is recommended to use various methods of saving space. For example, set up a bench for sitting around the perimeter of the gazebo by mounting the seats in the walls.
- Brazier. If it is planned to lay a barbecue area or a fireplace from stone or brick inside, the room should be spacious enough so that there is at least 2 m between the brazier and other furniture. Typically, barbecue and work surfaces are located along the perimeter of the gazebo. The minimum length of the barbecue with a working surface and a place to store firewood is 2.4–3.4 m, and the depth is 0.75–1 m.
- The form. Pergolas are rectangular, polygonal, round and combined. This affects the configuration of the roof, the size of the walls and openings.
For such a rather complex structure, it is better to use standard designs or hire a specialist. If you wish, you can make a drawing yourself, but you should definitely think through all the dimensions well and transfer them to paper.
Place selection and layout
When choosing a place for the gazebo, you should carefully inspect the site plan. A good option would be a secluded place with beautiful views of the landscape or the highest point of the terrain. It is better to remove the building with barbecue from the apartment building at a distance of 8 m. At the same time, it is not recommended to put a gazebo, in which it is planned to receive and prepare food, too far from the kitchen with a refrigerator.
No water should accumulate in the selected location. It is good if there will be a platform nearby for carrying out a table with chairs for tea drinking in the fresh air or for sunbathing on a deck chair. The building plot should be cleaned of debris and vegetation, and then leveled. Before construction, marking of the corners and walls of the gazebo with pegs and rope is done.
The easiest way is to mark a rectangular shape. To do this, use the rule of the Egyptian triangle, check the length of the walls and so that all angles are strictly straight. To do this, use a square. When marking polygonal shapes, we should recall geometry lessons and drawing 6–8-angle shapes.
Step-by-step construction
After marking the base and checking its size with measuring tools, you should proceed to the construction of the gazebo. A concrete cushion is made under the structure, and deeper pits are dug in the places where the supports are installed. Glazing should take up a lot of space or almost the entire part of the walls. When decorating the inner space, you can show all your imagination.
Foundation bay
A pit is dug along the outlined lines with a depth of about half a meter. In the places where the support posts are installed, pits are made 1.5 m deep. Formwork is installed around the perimeter. The bottom of the pits is covered with geotextile and covered with a layer of crushed stone of 20 cm. The bottom of the pit is rammed, and also lined with a crushed stone pillow of the same thickness.
Important! If the weather is hot, the foundation should be watered daily to avoid cracking..
Inside the formwork, metal reinforcement is laid. Large bars, for example, 10 × 15 × 25 cm in size, are inserted into the pits, and concrete is poured. The poured concrete is leveled and dried under wet burlap or rags for uniform drying. The base can be left concrete, or it can be cladded (with slabs, stone) or wooden flooring.
Pillars and walling
Supports should be installed strictly vertically in the prepared pits and strengthened until the concrete mortar dries. For spacious gazebos, you can make durable brick supports. When installing or constructing pillars, a level is always used to control their size and direction.
After installing the pillars, the lower and upper bindings are first made and only then the lining (wood or glass). But the brick walls are laid out immediately after the foundation has dried.
Roof and roof
The roof rafters are assembled on the supporting poles and their binding is done according to the project. For this, wooden blocks or a metal profile can be used. In the manufacture of rafters, their indentation from the walls and the shape of the structure are taken into account. Then insulating materials are laid and the roof is laid. It can be slate, tile, ondulin. Some prefer to mount a polycarbonate roof on a profile.
Glazing
In the arbors of brick and wood, large openings for glazing are made. At the same time, you can use frames or do without them, choose double or single glazing. You can make panoramic windows and admire the surrounding landscape. When using a profile, it is good to install sliding systems.
Such a structure is often completely covered with double-glazed windows or polycarbonate. Some people prefer to make stained glass stained glass to achieve a higher decorative effect. For better ventilation, opening windows is recommended.
Did you know? For the first time window openings were glazed in the Roman Empire, but such an expensive pleasure could only afford to know.
Interior design and decor for the gazebo
When using a gazebo made of brick or natural stone with wood, emphasis should be placed on the naturalness of the materials used. When finishing, eco-materials, wooden furniture, textiles, ceramic and glassware will be good. Inside the covered gazebo, you can make the lining of wooden panels and cover them with stain. A beautiful addition to the design will be hanging in the openings of flower pots with fresh flowers.
Inside the gazebo, you can use beautiful curtains, roller blinds or Roman curtains. It is best to use light colors in the interior. The use of textiles - a tablecloth, plaid, towels, pillows, fabric covers, will create a pleasant atmosphere. If the place allows, then in the recreation area you can put a sofa, hang a hammock, swing (with children), arrange futons. A good option would be to use modular upholstered furniture without a frame. If there is a fireplace (real or false), a recreation area is located next to it.
The rustic or Russian style of construction allows the use of massive furniture or benches. The latter is best done with the backs for the convenience of people. In the Japanese gazebo, it is recommended to use natural materials and the principle of minimalism, bamboo attributes. Here it will be possible to use pillows and kotatsu - a low table with a blanket that performs heating functions.
If a variant of the gazebo with panoramic windows and a sliding system is built, then it is better to choose small-sized elegant furniture and not abuse the decor elements. If there is a stone or brick barbecue, the floor from stone slabs, forged furniture or utensils, and art grates will organically look.
In the covered gazebo should conduct electricity and make lighting, as well as install various electrical equipment, such as a refrigerator. For each zone (rest, cooking, eating), it is recommended to provide your own lighting source. It can be a lamp, a lamp, a table lamp, a sconce. In the gazebo, you can also conduct water supply and put a sink. If you adjust the heating of the building, then you can use it not only in the summer.
Important! The flooring, walls and ceiling should not be made the same color, otherwise the room will resemble a casket.
A closed gazebo perfectly protects from the weather, it is possible to equip not only a dining area, but also a barbecue, a relaxation area. This is a permanent capital structure, which can be built of stone or brick, wood or metal. However, it should be remembered that the external and internal views of the building should be in harmony with the general style of the site and the adjacent buildings.
